One of the main draws of the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute is its rich cultural heritage. The institute is dedicated to preserving and sharing the culture and traditions of Hawaii, and this is reflected in the design and decor of the venue. From the traditional Hawaiian hale (bamboo structures) to the beautiful koi ponds and waterfalls, the institute is a feast for the senses.
Lanikuhonua means “where heaven meets earth” and that is definitely the case when you set foot on their lush property. Lanikuhonua was once the beloved vacation home of the 15th ruling chief of ancient Oahu. The property has been carefully maintained over the years and provides brides with a venue that not only treats everyone to beautiful views, but also offers valuable history and cultural significance. Lanikuhonua offers brides with three event space choices to hold their wedding ceremony and reception.
Ani Ani Ku
Lanikuhonua Phase 1, otherwise known as Ani Ani Ku, is a large venue able to accommodate 700 persons. It features a large open pavilion with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, and has access to exclusive restrooms. It also has access to the 200 parking stalls available for all Lanikuhonua guests. If you want a massive useable lawn area for your event, with a covered pavilion, then this venue is perfect for you.

Lanikuhonua Phase 2, known as Ka’ula, can accommodate 1,000 guests. The lawn area is scattered with gorgeous palm trees, which adds to the charm. The pavilion here is much smaller, and this venue is much more suited to couples looking for a full outdoor wedding.
One of the downsides of this venue is the lack of alternate covered area to protect sensitive equipment in case of a downpour. However, this area is a favorite because of the large useable lawn area, and the scenic views available for guests. Like all other locations in Lanikuhonua, this area has its own restrooms. Access to Lanikuhonua’s 200 parking stalls is also available.
Ha’alea
Ha’alea, or Lanikuhonua Phase 3, is the best option for small and intimate gatherings on the property. This location can hold a maximum headcount of 150 guests, and features a small open pavilion and exclusive restrooms. This is significantly smaller compared to the other phases, but still provides guests with a beautiful lawn, and a view of Ka’ula Bay. This location is perfect for a wedding reception after a beachside ceremony. If you’re looking for a close-knit celebration with limited people, this beautiful outdoor location is ideal for you.
What you may like:
The best part of holding a wedding at Lanikuhonua is being able to celebrate a milestone of your life in an area with rich cultural significance. It’s also an ideal location for brides looking for outdoor locations with beautiful ocean views and beach access. Overall, Lanikuhonua can easily provide a romantic island setting.
What you may not like:
Since Lankuhonua is home to several venues, there is a chance of other weddings happening at the same time on the property. While the three phases are located with some distance from each other, it might remove the secluded and private atmosphere. The property also has only 200 parking stalls available to share among all three phases so parking may be an issue if events are happening simultaneously. Also, since the property does not offer indoor ballrooms as an alternative, securing tents and other forms of protection for water-sensitive equipment is a must, in case of sudden rain.
